Image of Katie talking to someone with a Bang the Table banner in the backgroundHi, I'm Katie Toohey, I am your breakout facilitator for today. I have been working with Bang the Table as their NSW Engagement Manager since 2018. My role at Bang the Table has always been work from home (WFH) and so over the last few years I have gained experience in how to successfully (and not so successfully) work from home in a remote team. Today I join you from the beautiful Blue Mountains, a few hours north west of Sydney.

Join the discussions today to share your experience in working from home - what has worked well? What is not working so well? Any top tips? Anything you want help with?

Katie - just clicked the 'alert moderator' as an experiment, so no need to action! Just curious to see what happens :)

would you normally use it if you were concerned about a comment someone made?

Hi Cecilia - yes, the alert moderator brings the comment to the top of the moderators queue to review for suitability. So you use it to flag a comment for review if you think it might breach moderation rules :-)

How do you stay connected with your team - team work is about more than work. What have you found helpful in staying connected?

And now we are all Zooming around! How do you find it? Is it enough to replace face to face meetings?

I think the webinar component will be beneficial

I agree, I find most of the time online meetings are just as useful as face to face, but for larger meetings of more than about 10 people it can get a bit 'crowded'

Our team has a daily 'morning tea' zoom session. Boss uses part of it for work stuff, rest of us are happy to just chat if he's not round.

Love it! Absolutely agree that informal team catch up time is so important! Morning tea together sounds lovely!

My team and I currently stay connected with Skype for business and we are currently trialing 'Zoom Webinars' for presentations to external stakeholders

That sounds like a great approach Letitia. How are you finding Skype for Business? We use Slack for internal comms and calls and Zoom or GoToMeeting for external meetings. I prefer Zoom but it does have security vulnerabilities they are working to fix.

I have found switching off to be one of the hardest things when transitioning to work from home - share your tips for how you switch off in the thread below.

When you finish your work day, I find it beneficial to get outside if possible for some fresh air and exercise

Do you head out with your family, doggo, or alone? I find my dog does not let me stay at my desk too late ;-)

I like to change clothes, put all my work away (out of sight), some music and a bit of a dance (to shake off the day) and head outside for a walk!

Helps to have a set work space, called "work" and 'office hours'. Its a mental set of rules. I have a separate room for office stuff, so separating work and home is easy. Others without a separate space need to do things like putting the laptop in the linen press at knock off time.

I love that ideas Steve - putting the laptop away in a cupboard to designate 'home' time!

Hi there, Letitia here :) yes, i couldnt agree more with the work space and the office hours. I set one up last weekend and I am totally loving it! Also, I can finally take calls/video conferencing calls withought others in the house talking/walking in the background

I must admit Letitia I have really loved 'meeting' y clients kids and dogs! It makes the connection more personal and has not stopped us having productive meetings. But I do love my dedicated office too!
